It was a chilly start to the season! Kevin (K1KL) was unexpectedly out of town so I kicked off the 2026 season as net control for the Fool's Dual Half Marathon. It was probably overkill, but I brought a mobile and an antenna on a tripod -- I've participated in enough events where net control was having difficulty reaching the repeater that I didn't want to be That Guy.
I broke out my heavy winter jacket for the event, and I'm glad I did. I wanted to be out on the course and near the race director, rather than working from my van, and even with the heavy jacket I was a bit chilly just standing around.
The start was at O'Maley Middle School, which had some benches out front that made a great place to set things up. Here was my station:
